There are a lot of different ways to check out the qualities and the authenticity of hair cutting shears. However, if you are interested in purchasing high-end shears, there are simple ways to find out if they are Japanese style or Japanese authentic shears. 

  1. Test the brand's thinning shears
    It's hard to tell the quality of cutting shears after few snips of test cuts. How long they last or how well they cut after cutting hundreds of customers could be measured after long term use. However, you can always tell the quality difference of thinning shears from the first use.

  2. Make sure the shears have "Made in Japan" written on them
    If they are authentic Japanese shears, "Made in Japan" should written on the shear itself. "Japanese Steel", "Japanese 440C" or any other label that may mention the world Japan/Japanese does not necessarily mean that it is "Made in Japan". If there is no sign of country of origin, those products are most likely to be Chinese products, which are not even close to being good compared to Japanese shears.

  3. Ask for a "Certificate of Authenticity"
    Finally, if you can't find the country of origin on the product or you can't trust if the country of origin on the product is true, always ask your dealer or the company for a "Certificate of Authenticity" signed by authorized person.
